Legal
Terms and privacy
Last updated 24 October 2026. These are the terms for using ApiaryIQ and how your personal information is handled. Please read it. It is written in plain English, but it is still a legal agreement.
1. Who we are
ApiaryIQ was created by, and is owned and operated by, Dansarmar Group Limited (“Dansarmar”, “we”, “us”), a New Zealand registered company, NZBN 9429053779243, registered office Putaruru 3411, New Zealand. Email: admin@dansarmargroup.co.nz.
2. Agreeing to these terms
By creating an account or using ApiaryIQ, you agree to these terms and to the privacy section (3) below. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. You must be 16 or older to have an account.
ApiaryIQ is in beta testing. During the beta it is free, it may change, parts of it may not work as expected, and we may pause or end the beta at any time. We will try to give you notice first, and the chance to get a copy of your records.
3. Your privacy
We handle personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- Your account: your name and email address. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our sign-in provider; we never see it.
- Your records: your apiaries (including their names, GPS locations and apiary register numbers), hives, queens, inspections, notes, photos, voice recordings and the words written out from them, treatments, feeds, harvests, tutin results and lab reports.
- Mentor questions and answers, while the chat is open, so follow-up questions make sense.
- Your approximate location, only when you ask for the weather “where I am”.
- Technical records such as sign-in times and error logs, used to keep the app secure and fix faults.
Why we collect it. Only to run ApiaryIQ for you: to store and show your records, upload them from your phone, answer your Mentor questions about your own hives, turn your voice recordings into answers, read the Mentor’s answers aloud, show the weather, send account emails (confirming your email and resetting your password), and to support you and fix faults. We do not sell your information and do not use it for advertising. The app uses no tracking or advertising cookies; it only uses the storage on your phone needed to keep you signed in and to hold records until they upload.
Who helps us run it. We use these service providers, who handle your information only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — stores your account, records, photos and recordings (data centre in Sydney, Australia).
- Cloudflare — delivers the app to your phone (worldwide network).
- OpenAI — writes out your voice recordings as text, reads the Mentor’s answers aloud, and prepares Mentor questions so the right reference material can be found (United States).
- Anthropic (Claude) — writes the Mentor’s answers, using your question and a summary of your hive records, and reads the written-out voice notes to fill in the inspection form (United States).
- OpenWeather — weather forecasts for an approximate location (United Kingdom).
- Resend — sends account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password reset.
Some of these providers are outside New Zealand. We use reputable providers whose terms require them to protect the information. Under their business terms, OpenAI and Anthropic do not use it to train their AI models. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Security. Information is encrypted while it travels, and each account can see only its own records. No system is completely secure. If a privacy breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
How long we keep it. For as long as you have an account. If you ask us to close your account, we will delete your account and records within 20 working days, except anything we must keep by law. Backup copies may remain for a short time after that until they are replaced. Records still waiting to upload live only on your phone, so clearing your browser’s data deletes them.
Other people’s information. If you enter someone else’s details (for example, a landowner’s contact in “Finding it”), please make sure they are happy for you to do so.
Your rights. You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Email admin@dansarmargroup.co.nz; we will reply within 20 working days. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
4. Ownership, and no copying
© 2026 Dansarmar Group Limited. All rights reserved.
ApiaryIQ — its software and source code, design, screen layouts, look and feel, graphics, logo, icons, wording, reference content and its user guide — is owned by Dansarmar Group Limited and protected by the New Zealand Copyright Act 1994 and international law. “ApiaryIQ” and its honeycomb logo are trade marks of Dansarmar Group Limited.
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use ApiaryIQ to keep your own beekeeping records, while your account is open. Except as the law allows, you must not:
- copy, reproduce, modify, adapt or translate any part of the app, its code, its design or its user guide;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, or try to get at its source code;
- build, or help anyone build, an app, product or design that copies or imitates ApiaryIQ;
- scrape, harvest or bulk-download the app’s content (other than your own records);
- resell, rent or share access to the app, or remove copyright or ownership notices.
Your records stay yours. You give us permission to store and process them only to provide ApiaryIQ to you. Your feedback helps us improve the app; you agree we may use it freely, without payment or credit.
5. Beta testing
Features you see during the beta are unreleased. Please do not publish or share screenshots, recordings or details of the app with others outside the beta, without our permission.
6. Advice and AI
Mentor answers, answers filled in from voice notes, swarm and treatment suggestions, the tutin limit and other guidance in the app are general information. AI can make mistakes. Check what the app tells you, and do not rely on it as professional, veterinary or legal advice. Always follow the label on any treatment product.
Your legal obligations as a beekeeper stay with you. These include registering your apiaries, inspecting for American foulbrood and filing your annual disease return under the National American Foulbrood Pest Management Plan, and reporting suspected exotic pests or diseases to MPI (0800 80 99 66).
7. Using the app properly
- Use ApiaryIQ lawfully and only for your own beekeeping records.
- Keep your password private; one account per person.
- Do not try to get around its security or access other people’s records.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
8. No guarantees, and limits on our liability
During the beta, ApiaryIQ is provided “as is”. We work to keep it available and your records safe, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or free of errors. Keep your own copies of anything important.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where those Acts apply. If you use ApiaryIQ for the purposes of a business, you agree the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including the loss of hives, honey, income or data, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and NZ$100.
9. Changes and ending
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect; using the app after that means you accept the change. You can stop using ApiaryIQ and ask us to close your account at any time. Before we delete your records, you can ask for a copy of them.
10. New Zealand law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If a dispute arises, we both agree to try to sort it out by talking first.
